US Naval Academy Summer Seminar Reflection

This summer, I had the opportunity to attend the first session of the U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar, where I experienced the daily life of a midshipman. During my time there, I learned about the challenges students face during Plebe Summer—a seven-week period focused on intense physical and mental training for incoming students.

One of the major highlights was completing my first Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA), which evaluates physical readiness for the Academy’s rigorous training. I also participated in a variety of academic classes, including physics, hydromechanics, and damage control, all designed to introduce us to the academic and technical expectations at USNA.

A particularly memorable experience was having the chance to simulate driving an Avenger-class destroyer, which was both exciting and unique. In addition to physical training, I had the honor of meeting Vice Admiral Yvette M. Davids, the Superintendent of the Naval Academy. I also engaged in conversations with Navy SEALs and USNA sports coaches, gaining valuable insight into leadership, discipline, and military life.

Although the week was challenging, I made lasting memories and friendships. Attending this seminar confirmed that USNA is my top choice for college, and it strengthened my ambition to commission as a Naval Officer and one day become a U.S. Navy SEAL.
