Early Start for State Meet!
Yesterday, the Camden Military Academy Track & Field team attended their first meet at Orangeburg Prep Academy and got a headstart on the SCISA State Championship track meet. Despite several new team members, the team picked up from last season and paved their way to a return to the State meet. The day started with the cadets earning a spot in both Triple Jump and High Jump (a first for the team). Troy Routh gained 2nd place in both the Triple Jump (36-09) and High Jump (5-06) and secured a spot at State for both events. Also, Michael Hunt earned a spot at State as well, earning 3rd place in Triple Jump (36-03).
The running events started later in the afternoon and Christian Snell started the day by earning 1st place in the 3200-meter run (11:06.76). He not only earned a spot at State, but set a new school record as well. Also, he went on to earn 2nd place in the 1600-meter run (5:03.24), another State qualifying time. Not long after the 3200-meter race, the new 4×800 meter relay team punched their ticket to State with a 9:41.54 time (Kyle Marinko, Prayas Shrestha, Mason Tirone, Cohen DeCort). Overall, it was a great start to the 2024 track season and we expect many more to join the team at State later this season. Stay tuned!
