Yesterday afternoon, the Camden Military Academy Track & Field Team took a trip to Wilson Hall and for its first track meet of the season. The team achieved second place, while competing against six different schools. The team left the meet with a new school record and five State qualifying events. The afternoon started off well when Troy Routh qualified for State by launching to a 5’4’’ mark in the High Jump. This was followed up by two 1st place victories for John Davenport in both the Middle-School Shot Put (30-04) and Discus (94-10).
As for the running events, we have several new State qualifiers, starting with Caleb Wilson who qualified in the 3200-meter run (11:38.56). Next, Luke Smith qualified for State in the 1600-meter race with a 5:15.67 time. Also, Micquel Newsome was able to grab first place and the new school record in the 400-meter race with a 53.36 time. As the evening went on, the relay races began and the competition was strong between the schools. The 4×800 relay team stepped on to the track (first time this year) and secured first place and a State qualifying time at 9:31.72. The team members include Prayas Shrestha, Zizhao Liang, Micquel Newsome, and Luke Smith. To end the night, the 4×400 relay race was held as the last event. The relay team was able to qualify for State with little time to spare, when they ran a 4:00.02. The team members include Zuri Best, Riddick McCoy, David May, and Micquel Newsome. A big thanks to all the parents and staff that came out in support. The team is looking forward to seeing what is in store at the next meet!
