At Camden Military Academy, learning extends far beyond the classroom and our Spanish Lab is a perfect example of that commitment. Led by myself alongside Major Holman, Spanish Lab is a weekly opportunity for cadets to strengthen their language skills in a more engaging, hands-on environment.
These sessions are designed to reinforce what students are already learning in class while giving them the time and space to truly master it. Through interactive activities, guided practice, and one-on-one support, cadets are able to build confidence in their speaking, listening, and comprehension skills. Whether a student needs extra help with grammar, vocabulary, or pronunciation, Spanish Lab provides the structure and support to help them succeed.
I personally dedicate two days each week to working with cadets who want to improve, not only their grades, but their overall understanding of the Spanish language. What makes this lab special is the individualized attention each student receives. Cadets are encouraged to ask questions, take risks, and actively engage in the learning process without the pressure of a traditional classroom setting.
However, Spanish Lab is about more than just academics. One of our primary goals is to spark a genuine appreciation for the Spanish language and the rich cultures that come with it. By incorporating cultural elements, real-world applications, and conversational practice, we aim to make learning meaningful and enjoyable.
This foundation becomes especially valuable as we look ahead to future travel opportunities, including trips to Spain. When cadets are immersed in the language and culture abroad, the skills they’ve developed in Spanish Lab come to life in powerful and memorable ways.
At its core, Spanish Lab is about growth, academic growth, personal confidence, and cultural awareness. It’s where cadets move beyond memorization and begin to truly connect with a language that can open doors around the world.
