On March 3, 2026, several cadets from Camden Military Academy had the opportunity to step outside of their daily routine and step into the role of mentors as they traveled to Horse Creek Academy to read to K–5th grade students. The visit took place during Read Across America Week, a nationwide celebration that encourages a love of reading among young learners.
From the moment our cadets entered the classrooms, the excitement was evident. Books were opened, imaginations sparked, and meaningful connections were formed. Our young men didn’t simply read stories aloud, they brought them to life. With energy, expression, and enthusiasm, they captured the attention of students who eagerly followed along, asked questions, and laughed at the right moments.
Beyond the pages of the books, something even more powerful was happening. Our cadets took time to introduce themselves, share where they are from, and talk about their experiences at Camden Military Academy. For many of the elementary students, it was inspiring to see older students who model confidence, leadership, and a genuine love of learning.
This experience perfectly reflects what we strive to develop at Camden: young men of character who lead by example. Serving as reading mentors allowed our cadets to practice patience, communication, and encouragement, skills that extend far beyond the classroom. It was a powerful reminder that leadership is not just about rank or responsibility, but about influence and service.
The feedback from the faculty at Horse Creek Academy was overwhelmingly positive. Teachers shared how much the younger students enjoyed the interaction and how special it was to see the high school cadets investing their time and energy into the day.
We are incredibly proud of our cadets for representing Camden Military Academy so well. Through opportunities like this, they continue to demonstrate that true leadership!
