On Friday, 2/23/2024, Camden Military Academy wrestling team members Troy Routh, and Kayden Kyes, competed in the 2024 National Prep Wrestling Championships, held at Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
The National Prep Championships were established in 1935, and this is the 88th hosting of the prestigious event. This year, there were more than 140 teams at the competition. Routh and Kyes are the first CMA wrestlers to ever compete in the championships.
Routh, a team captain, is a junior at CMA. He wrestled for the Spatans in the 157 pound weight class, and qualified for the championships by placing third in the Southeastern Regionals. His hometown is Reardan, Washington.
Kyes is in the eighth grade, but wrestled on the varsity squad in the 106 pound weight class. He qualified for the championships by placing third in the Southeastern Regionals. His hometown is Zelionople, Pennsylvania.
Both athletes say they are excited about wrestling next year, and plan on competing in the 2025 Prep National Championships.
