Varsity Basketball Update
For the second time in three years, the varsity basketball team had no returning players.
During the preseason, the team was in a state of flux as the players and coaches worked to get used to each other and to a 5:45 am practice time.
The original practice plan had to be scaled back as it became obvious that the team was lacking in many basic fundamentals due to their inexperience.
Though the team has struggled offensively and is winless through the first four games of the schedule, the current player’s attitudes are good and the effort is there.
The coaches have set goals of continuing with a maximum effort, and getting better every practice and every game.
All the players on the team have had an opportunity to play quality minutes and have contributed in a positive way.
Senior Justin Walker, Juniors Darnell Battle and Matt Zimmerman, and Sophomores Devin Larsen and Olando McCoy have been working at guard.
Juniors Ian Benton, Max Bryan and Reginald Singleton have been playing the forward positions.
Senior Nate Lusk and Junior Malike McGill man the post. McGill is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder.
The recent additions of Senior Jake Harper at point guard and Matt Fullen at forward will add much needed leadership and experience to the team.
We look forward to the return of the players after a long Christmas break and getting right back into the schedule.
