The Camden Military Academy track and field team participated in its first meet of the 2015 season last night when the Spartans traveled across town to Camden High School to pit their skills against the CHS Bulldogs, the Lugoff-Elgin Red Devils, and the McBee Panthers. CMA's team has grown significantly over last year's squad thanks to the return of veterans like Jake Ligon, Alex Newton, and Jacobi Velarde and the participation of nearly a score of first-year participants, but last night's event saw them still outnumbered over four-to-one by even their smallest rival. Nevertheless, the Spartans showed themselves a force to be reckoned with and displayed some impressive performances in the sprints, runs, jumps, shot put, and discus.
Of particular note was the Spartans' performance in the distance events. Logan Allman placed 6th in the 1600m with a time of 5:29 and Reese Knutson placed fourth with a time of 5:25, which was only six seconds out from first place. Knutson was even more impressive in the 3200m, placing second and only one second out of first place.
CMA's next meet will be Thursday, 19 March at 5:30 pm when the Spartans travel to Sumter, SC for a meet hosted by Crestwood High School.
