On Monday, January 27, the 2012 Camden Military Academy Tennis Team signed their contracts for the season. This promises to be one of the best tennis teams the school has fielded in ten years. The team includes: Max Feinman, an 8thgrader ranked in the top five of North Carolina; Nestor Ruiz, a junior, an amazing athlete and dedicated player from San Juan, Puerto Rico; Landon Bartlett a senior from Statesville, NC, with biting ground strokes and a pounding serve; Conrad Coulter from Charlotte, NC, a rock solid competitor with an icy disposition; Alexandre Debaty from Brazil, another stalwart athlete with heavy topspin on both sides and a booming serve; William Kang, a fiery competitor from Myrtle Beach, SC, also sporting heavy spin on both sides; Zachary McWilliams, an up-and-coming freshman Floridian with smooth, consistent ground strokes; and Zachariah Azari, a senior veteran of the tennis program, from Hilton Head, SC, serving this year as the team captain. Overall, the team is more talented and more mature than most we’ve seen in previous years.

The season will entail thirteen matches, six away, six at home and one yet to be determined. All but the first home matches will be played at the courts on York Street in Camden (north on 521 from exit 98 on I-20; left on York St; courts on the right). Tennis coaches Ghaffar and Darby expect a very successful season, and spectators are welcome.
