State Meet is Finally Here!

After a long road, the CMA track/field team has finally arrived at State and it has been a season of much growth. From the start of practice in February until the final meet yesterday, the cadets have set the path forward for a much improved track/field program here at CMA. Just in the first year of joining the SCISA division, these cadets have been able to put 12 athletes into the State Finals, for a total of eight different events. Yesterday at the SCISA Regional II- 3AAA track meet held at Wilson Hall, the boys battled again to get another three cadets sent to State. For the 1600-meter, Christian Snell placed 3rd and hit a state-qualifying time at 5:16.58. In the 800-meter, two cadets placed first and third and both qualified for State as well; Lamont McCullough (1st, 2:13.21) and Reilly Cunningham (3rd, 2:16.68). Also, both the 4x400 meter and 4x800 meter teams placed second in both races earning them silver (4x400 meter: Cohen Decort, Patrick Looney, Andrew Barbee, Dewitt Cure; 4x800 meter: Isaac Maher, Reilly Cunningham, Alistar Omdahl, Christian Snell). Also, the 4x800 meter team has increased their school record by ten seconds, with the new record being at 9:37.81. Overall, it has been a season for the record books (literally) and these cadets have excelled all expectations for our first year in SCISA. Coach Phillips and I hope to see as many parents at the SCISA State Meet at Porter Gaud on May 6th at 9:00 am; if you cannot make it, we will be livestreaming all events with times as well.
