The varsity football team won a closely contested game with a 14-6 win over the Hickory Hawks. The Spartans scored on their first possession with a touchdown run by Bryce Lee. The extra point conversion was no good. The Hawks responded with a scoring drive to end the first quarter. The two point conversion was intercepted by Hunter Keltner. The second quarter and third quarters were a defensive struggle. Both the Spartans and the Hawks defenses kept the offenses in check and off the scoreboard. The defenses made huge plays at crucial times. Byrce Lee scored in the fourth quarter for the Spartans with a touchdown run. Hunter Keltner ran for the two point conversion. The Spartan defense came up big in the final quarter. They made three fourth down stops. Zuri Ajebon recovered a fumble and Danny McGrory batted away a pass to end the Hawks final drive. There were several Spartans defenders that contributed big plays including: Christrian Johnson, Joseph Buetow, and Ash5ton Lawrence. The 2021 season was successful as the Spartans returned to the field for the first time since 2019. The team finished with a winning record and gained valuable experience. All of the coaches are grateful to all the players for their efforts. There are 18 seniors ( see list below) that graduate in May, and they will be missed next season. The focus will turn to next season when the underclassmen return from Christmas Break. The returning players will be conducting off-season weightlifting and conditioning to prepare for the 2022 season.
