Preparing for College at CMA

Many student and their families ask themselves the question “What is going to set my college application apart from other 2 million seniors applying for college?” The application process can be stressful, and is increasingly more competitive than ever before. The outcome of the admission process may affect a student’s future career trajectory considerable. So what can you do to set your application apart? William Deresiewicz, a professor from Yale, quoted in the BBC about his article in the New Republic, 2014 referred to “Private and affluent public primary education, test-prep courses, ‘enrichment’ programs, volunteer service projects, international travel, music lessons, and sports activities” as the building blocks to a perfect college application.

Private boarding schools like Camden Military Academy are the perfect place to gain experience in these ‘building blocks.’ The academic program on the high school level is strictly college preparatory and we offer test-prep classes for both the SAT and ACT. If a student wishes to get ahead, he can also enroll in college courses while attending Camden Military. A cadet can earn college credit and high school credit at the same time. These classes are taken on our campus and taught by professors from the University of South Carolina.

Our summer enrichment programs are for more than just high school students looking to get ahead. An article by the Oxford Royale states that summer programs are a great way to brush up and get more comfortable with subjects you are struggling in. Our summer programs have smaller class sizes that ensures you or your son is getting the attention he needs. Our middle school enrichment camps, activities held after classes each day, are designed to teach leadership, teamwork and physical fitness. They include hiking, paintball, aviation, scuba, marksmanship and more. If you are a high school student, taking summer classes shows colleges that you are enthusiastic about your education. Cadets can take up to 2 summer classes at Camden Military and participate in our optional outings to water parks, theme parks, hiking trips and much more.
