Heath Spring Elementary School honored our Veterans with an emotional Veteran’s Day program for the local students K-5 in Heath Springs, SC. Students invited their family and friends who served in the military as honored guests. They showed their appreciation for the sacrifices that they have made for our country. Corbin Knight of Heath Springs, SC invited his two very special heroes from Camden Military Academy.
LTC Lawing, the Commandant, and 1SGT Irvin, TAC Officer of Band and Staff Company, of Camden Military Academy made this day very special for a kindergarten student at Heath Spring Elementary. Dressed in their full Operational Camouflage Uniforms, the elementary school honored them and other veteran guests. It was a patriotic sight to see the students walk in wearing our country’s colors and holding our Flag. They showed these gentlemen that their losses, their sacrifices, and their pain were acknowledged by the newer generation.
Andrew Jackson High School’s ROTC preformed a flag folding ceremony as well as a Tomb of the Unknown Guard Ceremony. The students watched in awe as they learned about our military and country’s traditions. The students of Heath Springs honor’s Chorus sang.
After the program many students presented gifts of to the veterans. One young lady approached and stated, “I just want to shake your hand and say thank you.” There was talk of awards, as parents and other veterans were curious to know more about some of the awards that LTC Lawing and 1SGT Irvin of Camden Military Academy had received. For a 5 year old boy, he saw that he was not the only one who knew these men were heroes.
