This Is the time of year that the cadets are working on National History Day. It is a project for students all over the nation that involves historical research on topics the students find interesting! It involves both high school and middle school students. The theme for this year is Debate and Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences. Our cadets have chosen their topics and are working on scripts, costumes, and backdrops.

The middle school students, Derrick Bailey, Cayden Hawthorne, William Roberts. Benjamin Ritter and Christian Snell, are researching and performing a recreation of the Orangeburg Massacre that happened in Orangeburg, SC. They have read articles and looked at pictures to present an accurate account of what happened in 1968. Their findings were difficult because many injustices occurred during this incident.

The high school students choose the topic of the crackdown on protesters in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China to research. The students in this group are Artur Bondar, Logan Moore, John Rivers, Jeffrey Stith, and Ryan Stanley. This group had to research the uniforms of the Chinese soldiers and what the Chinese Premier wore. They created very realistic costumes.

The cadets had the most fun choosing the scenes for the backdrops and painting them. Needless to say, they spilled some paint and made some mistakes while painting, but the backdrops are beautiful, and they are very pleased with them!
