This season, like many others, had its ups and downs. The CMA
Spartans Jr High Basketball team finished with a 2-6 record. This
years team battled through injuries and other obstacles to be
competitive in every game. They started there season with 1 and 3
win/loss record before Christmas, with a big win against MCBEE. After
Christmas the Spartans has a tough loss on the road to a good
Timmerman squad who outmatched the smaller Spartan squad. “With our
three starters in the game, I thought some guys stepped up and really
showed some competitiveness about them that we hadn’t seen before. It
was good to see that in a game setting as we would need them down the
road.” Said Coach Griff Beckham. The Spartans turned around the next
week and had a great team win against MCBEE again. “Our defense was
phenomenal the whole game.” Coach Beckham said. “All of our players
got to play in that game.” The next few games the Spartans lost some
confidence as they had a two week layoff before the next game. The
Spartans lost another tough game to Timmerman School. With the last
two games of the season, the Spartans were playing toe great squads in
Lawrence Manning and Wilson Hall. The Spartans lost both games in
competitive fashion. “I thought our guys battled all season long. We
just couldn’t get the ball in the basket win we needed it. I was very
proud of our guys and how they came together through some adverse
situations.” Coach Beckham said.
