Our CMA Library Club is thriving this school year with 30 members and plans for fun, learning, and giving to our community. We recently enjoyed The One and Only Ivan book and movie along with a delicious meal from Zaxby’s. Cadets who had read the book by Katherine Applegate when they were younger remarked at how they better understood the book’s deeper message now that they are older and wiser. We are reading collections of scary short stories in preparation for watching the movie, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
Our community volunteer projects are currently restricted, but we hope to one day resume our visits to Food for the Soul, a local homeless shelter. Cadets also look forward to returning to Jackson School to read to kindergarten students. In the meantime, we are exploring other options for giving back to the local community. Virtual visits to the Kershaw County Council on Aging center will begin soon. Our cadets will be sharing time, swapping stories, and playing Bingo with new friends via the Internet until we can one day meet in person.
