Dual Enrollment- History

For this blog I decided to provide an update on the dual-enrollment history courses. The past seven weeks of the course have been a challenging, but rewarding experience for both the cadets and I. This year I have several new cadets, including those new to Camden Military Academy, which provides an opportunity to make new impacts on cadets. For most of these cadets this is their first time taking a dual-enrollment course and they are having to adapt to the new challenges required in a college-level course. I enjoy watching these students grow into “college students” and take on new responsibilities as learners and leaders. Many of my students have demonstrated the skills necessary to survive college, such as note-taking, studying, researching, and public speaking. In the next two weeks they will be taking their first college midterm, which is an exciting time for them. I am confident in their ability to rise to the occasion and demonstrate a mastery of historical content. To reward their hard work, I will teach them the art of dueling from the 18th century United States. They recently learned of the duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, so they have shown some interest in it. I plan to have them play a dueling tournament on the parade field with nerf guns. I look forward to the rest of the semester and their growth as students.
