My trip to Columbia to run at the Lake Murray Invitational and attendance of the Carolina-Missouri football game was one of a kind. The day started out when we arrived at the invitational. Upon arrival, we warmed up and stretched, and soon the race was underway. Close to 300 runners were running in the Varsity Boys meet. After the race was over, we skipped the awards ceremony in order to beat the game day traffic, and headed to Williams-Brice Stadium. We tailgated before the game at Cock’s Corner, and enjoyed refreshing drinks and tailgate food. We left early from Cock’s Corner to enter the stadium. Col. Heflin had obtained tickets, but not all of them were grouped together. Ryan Collins and I had seats together, so we went and found those. They were located near the top of the stadium. Soon, the game was underway. I enjoyed every aspect of the game. I enjoyed the crowd, the game, and the overall environment. It was the first time I had been to a major college sporting event. It meant a lot to me that Col. Heflin would spend his day to take us to a meet, and then to a game. Coach let us split up in a stadium of almost 100,000 people. He trusted that we would not do anything stupid, or get into things we were not supposed to. He went out on a limb for us, knowing that if we messed up, he would be to blame. After the game, we stopped by Zaxby’s to grab a quick bite to eat. Overall, I had a great time. I got to do something I had never done before, I got to hang out with my friends. It was a great day.
