March 15, 2020
Today, the Governor of South Carolina stated that all South Carolina public schools will be closed temporarily. This mandate is for public schools only, not private schools, and Camden Military Academy is a private school.
In response to Governor McMaster’s mandate, Camden Military Academy will maintain a closed campus until further notice. During this time, CMA cadets will have minimal contact with anyone outside of the immediate CMA community and will not leave campus. There are no known cases involving coronavirus disease COVID-19 at Camden Military Academy at this time.
Due to the fact that we have students from over 35 states and several foreign countries, we recognize that not everyone is able to depart the campus. Therefore, we will remain open to accommodate these cadets.
While campus is closed...
- There will be no furloughs, general leave or off-campus activities for cadets.
- CMA will not participate in any extracurricular, off-campus competitions or meetings.
- Cadets will not attend church services off campus.
- Campus will be closed to visitors.
- There will be no fast food deliveries to campus.
- If any cadet leaves campus, he will be required to remain at home and utilize distance learning until the COVID-19 situation resolves.
Parents are highly encouraged to choose to have their cadet return home during these unprecedented times and participate in distance learning. The faculty and staff are diligently working to prepare assignments for those cadets participating in distance learning. Cadets must have access to computers and wi-fi to participate in distance learning. Cadets must be able to utilize their camdenmilitary.com email and strictly adhere to the deadlines of any assignments.
For cadets that must remain on campus, additional precautions will be taken with our faculty and staff when they have contact with students. Faculty will wear a mask and gloves when having contact with the cadets in the classroom. This pre-cautionary measure is to prevent the faculty from spreading the virus if they had any unknown contact with the virus. Additionally, the dining hall staff and maintenance department have increased measures to clean, sanitize and disinfect all facilities on campus. Faculty and staff have also been instructed to stay at home if they feel ill or are experiencing any symptoms of illness.
Questions that we have received…
Regarding the food supply at CMA, our food vendors will continue to deliver supplies to the dining facility, and we have been told that there will not be any disruption of service. We also have food for emergency situations. In the past, CMA has weathered hurricanes, floods, snow and tornadoes requiring temporary suspension of food services and we are able to keep everyone fed. The grocery stores are open in Camden and we have a close relationship with the closest grocery store to campus.
In response to the question of who may participate in distance learning, every cadet regardless of grade or subject may participate in distance learning. Any cadets participating in distance learning must have their textbooks and workbooks. Instructions for the completion of the assignments will be given to the cadets by email, phone calls or video conferencing with instructors. Initial contact from the instructors will be sent to the cadet’s camdenmilitary.com email. All cadets participating in distance learning should contact Col. Boland or Mr. Casey Robinson at .
Please contact 1SG Ray Brown if you need to make travel arrangements for your son. He can be reached by email at or by calling 803-900-1234.
Camden Military Academy’s administration made these decisions with keeping our corps of cadets’ health a top priority. If you have any questions, please contact Col. Boland at 803-432-6001, Mr. Casey Robinson at 803-432-6001 or email . Isiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Once again, thank you for your understanding and cooperation during these unprecedented times.
God Bless,
Eric Boland
