CMA JV SPARTANS DEFEATED BUFORD JV YELLOW JACKETS
Sometimes a soccer team can exhibit tremendous skill by somehow not scoring a goal or just nearly scoring one. In fact, CMA JV Spartans has made a habit of it in the past two games against Indian Land Warriors last Thursday with a 0-0 tie and yesterday against Buford Yellow Jackets with a 1-0 win. In yesterday's game against Buford, JV Spartans strikers managed to kick the ball off the metalwork, not once, not twice, not three or four times, but five times without scoring.
The series began with Spartans' Brian Guarino rifling a shot past the yellow Jackets goalie that pinged off the far post. However, it appeared the squad would still notch a goal because the ball happened to rebound right to Guarino's teammate Jacob McGuire, who faced an inviting open net. Hooton got his head on the ball, which proceeded to bounce on the ground before hitting the crossbar. Mercifully, the ball dropped for him once more, giving him another chance to get his team on the board, but he capped off the unlikely sequence with yet another shot that hit the crossbar.
The sequence likely gave JV Spartans Coaches Ferjani and Ararat, substitutes on the bench and fans alike a heart attack, but fortunately for them David Hooton was there to notch the first and only goal of the game in the 16th minute to give his squad the victory. The entire sequence gave us flashbacks to Ronaldinho's "Crossbar Challenge" in which the Brazilian legend was filmed effortlessly kicking a ball off a crossbar repeatedly from a fair distance away (with the help of the shoes he was shilling, of course).
On the 2nd half JV Spartans kept charging and hitting the cross bar again and again with shots by Guarino, Darby, twice and McGuire, but unable to increase the score. The final Score was CMA JV Spartans 1 Buford JV Yellow Jackets 0. With this win CMA JV Spartans continue to be undefeated for their second season in a row. next game will be on Monday March 25, 2013 at Patriot Park in Sumter, against Wilson Hall JV Barons.
