On Saturday, April 26, 2014, Cadets from Camden Military Academy attended the 2014 State History Day at Westwood High School in Blythewood, S. C. Under the leadership of LTC John Heflin, the Cadets finished 1st place in the Senior Group Performance. The title of their performance was Living in the 1960's: Rights and Responsibilities in History. Even though we have won numerous times, I was shocked by this last win. In 2nd place was HCS Early College High School of Conway, South Carolina with "Scopes Monkey Trail". 3rd place was awarded to the Governor's School for the Fine Arts of Greenville, SC with the title of Negro Spirituals: Communicating Rights and Responsibilities Through Song and Dance". The Cadets along with the second placed team will represent South Carolina at the National History Day. This event will be held at The University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland on June 15-19, 2014. As a result of these winners, everyone will now become Team South Carolina. Additionally, students from various states, territories, and some military bases will attend this event. A special thanks to LTC. Deborah Hartley-Yarborough, CPT. Alice Thaxton, and Dr. Farida Cassimisee.
