The CMA varsity baseball team started off on a very good note.  They came in 2nd place at the Mid-Carolina Baseball Classic at North Central High School.  Then they lost some very close games to some tough competition.  Before spring break the Spartans had a 3-6 record. After spring break they won 2 games, one on a walk-off wild pitch, in which they came back from a 5 run deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning to tie the game and the very next night against Cheraw, 10-7.  Then the Spartans would not find the win column for the next two weeks.  “Right in the middle of the season we lost our confidence, both offensively and defensively and that lead to some big struggles.  We were right in the middle of those games and they could have easily gone our way.  This team battled all season long.” said Coach Griff Beckham.  Next, they played in a spring break tournament over at Fairfield Central.  The Spartans lost a tough one to Richard Winn Academy and then lost another one to host Fairfield Central.  They got back in the win column against Great Falls with a strong offensive performance from Eric Stromme and a great pitching performance by Kody Kaminer.  Both players earned All-Tournament honors.  With one week of games left, the Spartans played North Central, Central, and McBee.  Losing to all three schools was a disappointment, but the Spartans never gave up and were in all three games.  “I was very proud of the effort this team gave.  Our record was 6-15 and with a few plays here and there we could have easily been 15-6.  We played some great competition and I thought our guys battled hard all season. I am very proud of what this senior class has done here.  They have laid the groundwork for this program to be competitive again and to show some toughness.” said Coach Beckham.
