Alumni and Development Update
As the new school year approaches in August, Camden Military Academy wants to inform our current parents, future parents, alumni and friends of the activities that take place during the year as part of the Alumni and Development departments. We will have a special parade for a couple of staff members who retired this year. Ms. Melinda Kane, who has been our librarian for 30 years, retired and will be recognized for her many years of service, as well as MAJ David LePage, who was a teacher for 27 years. This parade will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2013, and we hope that you will join us.
If you need an idea for a gift for a graduate or alumnus of Camden Military Academy, Carlisle Military School, or Camden Academy, consider a commemorative brick. The Phase II program is ongoing with the goal to replace the paving bricks at various buildings on campus. We already have the walkway around the Risher Administration Building completed. What better way to celebrate your son’s or grandson’s graduation from Camden; or if you have a father, grandfather, or friend who might have graduated or attended Camden or Carlisle, we encourage you to think about purchasing one in memory or in honor of a loved one! More information is on the alumni link on this website.
Our homecoming football game is Saturday, November 2, 2013. It is this weekend that we would like for parents to bring family and friends to the campus for lunch, a parade, a football game, and a picnic after the game. The Alumni Office also encourages alumni to contact classmates about reuniting for the day’s activities or just bring the family and friends.
With social media network/contacts, you could also plan a gathering at your chosen location; and if you want to visit the campus as a part of your reunion, you can check the website’s yearly calendar for the school’s annual breaks/furloughs. For the past several years, we have also helped alumni members through email and/or mail to send out the details about their class plans to meet at locations outside of CMA. However, if you want to include CMA in your plans, feel free to contact our alumni office about scheduling a parade and/or campus tours as part of your reunion.
Throughout the fiscal year, June 1, 2013 through May 31, 2014, the annual fund coordinator, Glenda Porter, would like for parents and alumni and friends to donate to the annual fund. You can designate your contribution to any of our programs or to the scholarship fund. If you are a donor of $1,000 during the year, you will be invited to the Excalibur Society annual dinner which will be held on March 7, 2014 as a new member. We are seeking funds to refurbish our barracks, but we are also looking for capital funds to build new barracks. If you or a friend knows of a foundation that we can contact for this project, please contact our office. And remember, also, that all donations are tax-deductible!
The month of May brings the Headmaster’s Charity Golf Tournament to the historic Camden Country Club. “Corporate and Hole Sponsors” are needed, as well as teams and players. The tournament offers Captain’s Choice, 4 player team competition and you can have a chance to win $10,000 in the putting contest or a new Camry for a hole in one! We encourage parents and alumni to join the fun at the all-day event. If you are interested, you can contact Glenda Porter or Diane Robinson for more information.
For one of the most anticipated times of the school year, we hope that all family members will be able to attend the 2014 graduation activities. The Friday night Baccalaureate service in the Cline Chapel is for our seniors’ families. After the Saturday morning final exams, a special awards ceremony is held at 2:00 PM in the Cline Chapel. The graduation dance is for all cadets and their families and is special for the seniors and their dates/families as they walk through the rows of swordsmen. It is a great opportunity to have family pictures made also. The final parade is set for 9:30 AM on Sunday morning, May 18th, 2014 as the seniors are honored, followed by graduation in White Field House.
