On Tuesday evening, July 9, 2019 at the regularly scheduled City of Camden Council Meeting, the council presented Camden Military Academy headmaster, Col. Eric Boland, a proclamation naming 2019 “The Year of Camden Military Academy.” The proclamation was presented to honor Camden Military Academy for 60 years of operations and service to the City of Camden.

Before the presentation, several members of City Council commented on the vital role that Camden Military has in the community. Councilmember Smoak noted “the significant economic impact” the academy brings to the city. Councilmember Graham thanked CMA for its community involvement and willingness to give back to the community. Mayor Drakeford and Councilmember Joanna Craig praised the academy for its commitment to excellence in education, and for developing and preparing young men for the future.

Camden Military Academy, the official military academy of South Carolina has been honored several times this year as it celebrates its 60th Anniversary. Earlier this year CMA was named the “Military Academy of the Year” by the Southeastern Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, in April, the General Assembly passed a joint resolution naming April 26, “Camden Military Day in the state of South Carolina.”

Col. Boland states, “this has been a very exciting year for CMA. We are thankful for all of the recognition as we celebrate 60 years in Camden. Thank you to Mayor Drakeford and the City Council for their kind words and continued support.” In acknowledging the proclamation, Boland added,” if you ever need us for anything, we will be there.”
