Another great year for CMA Cross Country!

Greetings Spartan Students, Parents, & Faculty!

As the cross country season comes to a close here at Camden Military Academy, I couldn’t be prouder of the group of young men who made up this year’s team. While our stat sheet might show just one medal , congratulations to Lucas Smith, who earned a Top 7 Boys Regional Medal for Kershaw County, the real victories this season were measured in heart, effort, and teamwork.

This was a season defined not by podium finishes, but by perseverance, sportsmanship, and character. Our runners may describe themselves as just “regular kids”, but what I saw every day in practice and at meets was far from ordinary. They pushed through the early mornings, the grueling workouts, and the unpredictable South Carolina weather all while encouraging one another and supporting their teammates. They were the first to lend a hand, the last to give up, and always respectful and dedicated young men.

To our parents, a sincere thank you. Your commitment from providing snacks, to cheering from the sidelines, to traveling to meets despite the challenges of having your sons away at a boarding school has meant the world to both the athletes and the coaching staff. Your presence and positivity have truly helped our cadets feel supported and celebrated.

A special and heartfelt farewell goes to our senior, Ben Kenshock. Ben has been a bright spot in my years of coaching not only as a talented runner, but as a young man of character. Watching him grow into a mature, steady leader has been a privilege. Even while sidelined by injury this season, Ben showed what true leadership looks like: mentoring his teammates, setting the standard, and helping shape the next generation of CMA runners. Ben, we’ll miss you and we’re excited to see the path you’ll run next.

We also celebrate Lucas Smith, whose dedication, leadership, and growing potential have made him a cornerstone of this team. His hard work as captain and his determination to push himself and those around him inspire confidence in the future of our program. Congratulations, Lucas — you’ve earned every bit of recognition that came your way this year.

To the rest of our hardworking runners, Presley Wallace, Trey Puga, Gabriel Saez, Lukas Dumancic, Prayas Shresta, Conner Skar, Tyler Wong, Tobias French, and Ty Davolt, thank you for your determination and dedication all the way to states. You embodied what Camden Military Cross Country stands for: effort, integrity, and teamwork.

A special shoutout also goes to our devoted manager, Deacon Parris, who’s behind-the-scenes work helped keep our practices and meets running smoothly. Every successful team needs someone reliable and steady in that role, and Deacon filled it perfectly.

Finally, I want to give a warm welcome and thanks to my assistant coach, Matthew Mims, for his first year on staff. His energy, commitment, and genuine care for the runners made a huge difference this season.

Upon reflection of our performance and our season, I can see we’ve built something here, a team of young men who know the value of effort, loyalty, and perseverance. I couldn’t ask for more as a coach.

Here’s to another great season and to the future of Camden Military Academy Cross Country.
