A Trip to the USS Yorktown

A group of Camden Military Academy cadets recently traveled to the historic coastal city of Charleston, South Carolina, to explore the Patriot’s Point Naval & Maritime Museum. The highlight of their visit was the USS Yorktown, a decommissioned aircraft carrier that saw service from World War II through the Vietnam War. The cadets had the chance to walk through the ship’s corridors, imagining the lives of sailors and pilots who served aboard. They stood on the flight deck, envisioning the historic moments that unfolded there, providing a rare, immersive experience that connected them to the past.

The museum visit offered more than just a glimpse of history—it was a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served in the U.S. Navy. Afterward, the cadets enjoyed a group dinner in Charleston, sharing their thoughts and experiences before heading back to campus, having gained a deeper understanding of military history and a stronger sense of camaraderie.
